[00:01:26] Speaker C: Welcome to another uplifting episode of Pulse of the Bluff. It's Dexter, and I am grateful to share this exciting and equally hopeful news to everyone with a heart for Memphis.
Our community needs it now more than ever. It's our shared belief at the Pulse of the Bluff podcast that there is always something good to talk about in the Bluff City.
So today we're talking about a project that's turning pain into purpose.
Right here on Melrose street.
Two powerhouse organizations, Our Rescue and We Fight Monsters, just signed a game changing partnership to build the Hope House, a sanctuary for survivors of human trafficking. It's about healing hope and Memphis stepping up. Let's dive in.
Yes, this is the same We Fight Monsters from the Hood Mart episode of Pulse of the Bluff. Our team is in love with this organization.
On May 22, these groups made it official with a memorandum of understanding. That's a fancy term for we're all in this together.
Our Rescue, a global anti trafficking ngo, is teaming up with We Fight Monsters, our homegrown Tennessee warriors to transform 1192 Melrose street from a forgotten building into a lifeline for survivors.
Ben Owen, co founder of We Fight Monsters, put it bluntly, this isn't just a partnership, it's a brotherhood in battle. And battle they do against trafficking, against neglect, against the idea that some neighborhoods are too far gone. Derek Benner, CEO of Our Rescue and yeah, he's former Homeland Security, didn't just show up for a photo op. Ben Owen tells us Derek was walking Memphis's toughest streets, learning from local cops and survivors.
That's the kind of partnership we're talking about.
Street level solutions.
So what exactly is Hope House? Think safety, healing and second chances. This isn't just a shelter. It's a trauma informed recovery home where survivors get housing, counseling, job training and something even bigger. Their lives back.
Jessica Owen, co founder of We Fight Monsters says it best.
This project isn't just about construction. It's about community.
And y' all, that community includes you.
Churches, businesses, volunteers. This is a call to action because in Memphis, we don't look away.
Oh, and that hashtag Ben Owen dropped dot from dope houses to hope houses. That's the vision. Taking what was broken and making it a beacon.
Every survivor deserves a safe place to heal.
Let's keep it real.
Memphis is a hotspot for trafficking. But here's the flip side. We're also a city that fights back. This partnership leverages global resources. That's our Rescue's funding and expertise with local hustle. That's We Fight Monsters. Boots on the ground crew. Benner said it loud. No one organization can stop trafficking alone.
But together they're bringing national networks, volunteers and a survivor care model that's proven worldwide. And get this, construction has already started. This isn't just talk. It's bricks and mortar and hope rising. Alright, Memphis, time to roll up your sleeves.
Here's how you can help.
Donate. Renovations cost money and every dollar turns Melrose street into healing ground.
Volunteer skilled labor, mentoring, outreach. They need you.
